Dagmar
Strunck designs and paints mohair-fabrics exclusively for the R.Schulte mill
and for Hermann-Coburg. In 1996 Hermann presented three "Artline" bears at
the toy-fair. These bears were made with handpainted fabric designed by Dagmar
Strunck. The pattern for this wonderful Teddybears was designed by Ulla Hermann,
while the fabric was created by Dagmar.
When Dagmar Strunck was 15 years old, she started her professional career as an painter. The work of Kandinski, van Gogh, Paul Klee, Otto Dix, Gustav Klimmt and the "Era of Expressionism" had an influence on her work. In 1991 Dagmar started "Beartime" while collecting teddybears. One year later she opened a specialty shop called Baerenhoehle . Since 1993 she has been creating Artistbears and ARTbears for commercial use.Same of her ART-Bears require more than 100 hours workingtime. Her work is always a reflection of society, culture and topical news.
In 1996, the Artistbear called "Poldie" was an important step for Dagmar in presenting her unique colorful bears as "Artwork". He was featured as the Febuary 1996 Coverbear for the Teddy Bear and Friends, and Dagmar was profiled in an informative article in the same issue.
The
mohair fabric for the Hermann "Artline Bears" is painted and designed by
Dagmar in her studio. The fabrics are painted by a selection of more than
100 mixable colors in a frame that holds up to 4 yards of material at a time.
Responding to the structure of the fabric, she uses different methods and
tools for painting. The paintbrush, airbrush systems, sponges and her hands
allow her to choose to work on the backing of the fabric, on the pile of
the fabric or only on the tips of the pile. The most important consideration
in developing a painted design, is the use of the fabric structure, and the
choice of colors to create her unique style of Bearmaking.
